Live Home Tournament
Well I played in my weekly live tournament last night.
It is usually a fun night as I get to practice seeing people in front of me and not just watching a computer screen.
These guys are not real good players and are extremaly loose. They are the tipical any 2 suited cards look good and they will call huge raises and re-raises.
This brings me to my point. I have always heard that you need to win with AK and beat AK to win a tournament. Well last night there were to instances where I went 0-2 and it cost me the whole tournament.
Hand #1 blinds 300/600 30 minute rounds and we all started with T1500.
I have around T7000 in the BB. I have AKo. It is folded around to the button, who starts fumbling with his chips and just looks like he is weak. He proceeds to bet strong like he has a hand and bets 1800. I have him covered by around T2500. I think I can move him off his hand so I move all in. He does not even think twice and called instantly. I actually got a little spooked. He then turned over his monster QTs and I was stunned that he would call for all his chips with that hand, but like I said these people love their suited cards. Well you know what happened next, a Queen flopped and I am down to T2500 and one of the shortest stacks. Exactly a round later still at the same blinds, the SM moves all in and he has less chips than me, I look down and see 88, so it was an easy call. He has AKo and of course a King flops and I am on life support. So next hand I have 500 chips left in which 300 go towards the big blind, so now I am commited to the next hand. I look down and see 96o (Big Lick), but no luck with that either as ATo wins the pot without a pair.
I do not think I could have done anything different, so I am happy with the way I played. I will gladly take the QT call every time as it is +EV for me in the long term.
Until Later...
