Recap of past week

Well it is starting to come around in the MTT for me.

The past 2 days, I have played 7 MTT and cashed in 4 of them, 3 of them I finished 15th and two 17th place finishes. I was short stacked in 2 and had a decent chip stack in the other, but played way too loose and donked most of my chips in before losing a coin flip to go out.

Also had a 3 way split in a home tourney and have been crushing the $5/$10 Limit at Party.
I did stop playing the SNG and I am not sure why, just not enough time in the night I guess...LOL.

Suckout City!!!

Well where do I start...I guess I will start with the Borgata Open $500+60, had 1319 runners, but the only paid 100 instead of the usual 10%. Of course, I went out in 115 on my AK vs AQ.
12 hours of playing and get zippo. Very frustrating!!

Now the weekend recaps:
99 lost to K4o, QQ lost to KJo when he caught a set of Jacks on the river.
99 lost to 44 when he caught a set.
TT lost to A9o when he flopped an Ace
AQ lost to A3 when he flopped a straight...gg me.

As you can see I was a big favorite in all these and lost every freaking one.
I know that things will even out and I will have a big cash, but it still hurts.

All I say is, thank god for cash games, the party limit games are keeping me going.

that's all for now, I have a live tournament tonight and hopefully it will not be another bad beat story.

Live Home Tournament

Well I played in my weekly live tournament last night.
It is usually a fun night as I get to practice seeing people in front of me and not just watching a computer screen.
These guys are not real good players and are extremaly loose. They are the tipical any 2 suited cards look good and they will call huge raises and re-raises.

This brings me to my point. I have always heard that you need to win with AK and beat AK to win a tournament. Well last night there were to instances where I went 0-2 and it cost me the whole tournament.

Hand #1 blinds 300/600 30 minute rounds and we all started with T1500.
I have around T7000 in the BB. I have AKo. It is folded around to the button, who starts fumbling with his chips and just looks like he is weak. He proceeds to bet strong like he has a hand and bets 1800. I have him covered by around T2500. I think I can move him off his hand so I move all in. He does not even think twice and called instantly. I actually got a little spooked. He then turned over his monster QTs and I was stunned that he would call for all his chips with that hand, but like I said these people love their suited cards. Well you know what happened next, a Queen flopped and I am down to T2500 and one of the shortest stacks. Exactly a round later still at the same blinds, the SM moves all in and he has less chips than me, I look down and see 88, so it was an easy call. He has AKo and of course a King flops and I am on life support. So next hand I have 500 chips left in which 300 go towards the big blind, so now I am commited to the next hand. I look down and see 96o (Big Lick), but no luck with that either as ATo wins the pot without a pair.
I do not think I could have done anything different, so I am happy with the way I played. I will gladly take the QT call every time as it is +EV for me in the long term.

Until Later...

Ouch !!!

Played the $50 2:00 p.m. on party, was doing fairly well until i got stinged with this hand when this luckbox sucked out on me on the river.
Thats pretty much the kind of week I had.

Blinds 200/400 I have $3680 and am 2 off the button.

A short stack from goes all in for $1555.
I smooth call, then the BB who has been overplaying alot of hands raises to put me all in.
I am pot commited here so I call.

Turn over our cards:
Me: JcJd
Initial raiser: Ac 8s
BB: 4s 4d

** Dealing Flop ** [ Ks, 7d, 5h ]
** Dealing Turn ** [ 9h ]
** Dealing River ** [ 4c ] Bye bye me !!!

20 from the money.

Is this the cashout curse??? Will wait and see...

Party Super Thursday

Well I decided to get to some MTT poker on Thursday night. I wanted to play in the Party Super weekday tourney and actually pay for it. I usually win my entry into bigger events like this, but i decided to fork up the cash this time.

We started off with 1000 and 20 minute rounds, and all was going well as I doubled up to 2025 earlier when my 2 pair AJ beat someones 2 pair JT. We get to the 30/60 level and and I get dealt 7c 7d UTG+1. Now I am not sure what to do, this is one of those hands that gives me the most problems in early position. Anyway I decided to limp and hopefully see the flop cheap, but it cost me the whole tourney.
If anyone is reading this log, I know at least one person is, please comment.
Do you bring it in for a raise? If you do not bring it in for a raise and see the flop like me, would you be able to get off this hand after the flop. I made a huge re-raise to find out exactly where I was. I guess they gave me the answer, but I just did not buy it. I was told to not worry about monsters under the bed.

I am posting a link that will replay the hand... I hope.

Slow night

Well since I had a live tourney on Monday night and did not get until the wee hours of the morning, last night was kind of a blah night. I am really tired and need to some sleep. After I put my son down to bed, I went and played some $5/$10 Limit at Party. Nothing great, but turned a small $51 profit in about an hour an 1/2. Got some big hands beat, but that is expected in limit poker. I hope to play some more tournys/SNG later in the week.

Thats all for now.

Weekend Poker

Did not play all that much, but managed to squeeze in 4 SNG on stars and went 0-4 finishing no better than 6th. Could not really do much in 3 of them, but the other one, I had my favorite hand (KK) :-) busted by 75s when he flopped a set. What he was doing calling a large raise pre-flop with that hand, I dont know. I guess I want these kinda calls, but not the results.

As of January 8th my Stars $20+2 Sit N Go Record

Party Time !!!

Well I decided to take a little break from the SNG and play some MTT on Stars and Party.

The first tourney I play for a 10 minute $10+1 on Stars and this does not go so well and I lose sometime after the first break.

I sign up for both the Party $20+2 and Stars $5+.50 5 min tourneys.

I played really well in the stars tourney and basically since this is a 5 minute turbo tourney, you need to gamble alot more as the blinds go up.
I play solid and pick my spots to gamble and have been either right or have been wrong, but lost to stacks that did not hurt me much.
At blinds of 600/1200, I pick up AKo and win a 10K pot vs KTo which gets me to around 20K in chips. Now this is a decent stack for a normal tourney, but since this is a turbo, it is not enough.

I pretty much win some, lose some in the next couple of levels when I pick up AA in middle position with blinds at 2000/4000, 200 ante and raise it to double the blind as I want some action. Fortunately for me, 2 of the short stacked players call me. One had KK and the other had ATo. I win a 19K pot that gets me to 43K. Again, nice stack, but blinds are just sky high.

I then went card dead for almost 3 level, I mean not even a sniff at a hand I can make a play with.

Then at 6000/12000, 600 ante level, I am in the SB and pick up JTh and I only have 15,574, so I will be forced to play a hand in the next orbit. Funny thing happened though, one of the other short stacked players goes all in, then another short stacked player decided to go all in. It was my turn to act. I thought for a while and decided this was a decent hand to have in a multi way pot as this is a premium drawing hand so I call the rest of my chips. One of the big stacks at the table decided to join the party and call as well to take all 3 of us out.

We turn our cards and see the following:
Initial all in guy: Qd 7c
second short chip guy: 9h 9d
big stack: 5s Jc
me: Jh Th

So I was like, thats not too bad, I have a pretty live hand.
It comes down: [7d Tc Ah][ 2c] [Kc] and I win crucial 39288 from the main pot and gets me to 58,344. Still need alot more with these blinds.

4 hands later, I am UTG and pick up A8o, the blinds are 10000/20000, 1000 ante. I only have 55,344 and decide it is time to push. I do and get the quickest call from the big stack directly to my left. I think I am dead. Everyone else folds and he flips over A4c, and I am a pretty big favorite.
Boars reads as follows [Js 7s 3s][ 5d] [5h] and I win a 90,344 pot...YES!!!!

4 hands later, I am 1 off the button and pick up the same hand A8o, I have 112,188 and blinds are not 15000/30000, ante 1500. I push and get called by the BB, a smaller stack who turns over K4o. No help for him and I win a 76,219 pot. Now have 188,407.

I then proceded to lose a 42K pot with 99 vs KK.
Now the crucial hand. With about 13 people left, I have 93,413 with blinds at 20K/40K, 2K ante. I pick up 88 UTG+1 and push. I get called by a guy who has 60,233 and he flips up AKd, so it is a race.

Flop and turn are great:
[5h 7c Qc] [7s]
But the river is:
[Ac] ......Sigh :-(

Pot was 188,466 This would have gotten me to the final table and 4th chips stack position. Oh well. I still have 33,180 left but that is well below the blinds.

2 hands later I pick up QJh and win a race against 77, win a 59,180 pot.
I then pick up trash in the next 4 hands and are forced to go all in with K5h and is called in 2 places by JJ and 88. The 88 won the hand as he flopped a set and knocked both of us out of the tourney, but since i was shorter of the 2, I got 10th and bubbled the final table. All in all I thought I played really well and got paid $57.94 ....LOL

***********************************************************************************
Tournament #3 Party 9:20 EST $20+2

I played pretty solid in this one, not making too many mistakes that would cost me chips.
We were approching the money, about 20 left and a key hand came up.

I have 2,665 and blinds are 300/600 no ante on Party tournies.
I am in the BB and all fold to the SB who has a shorter stack than myself at 1,746.

He proceeds to move in on me and I thought it was an easy call. I have a made hand and he could have any random hand, so I thought it would be a coin flip at worst. He had J2o.
I win a 3492 pot and cruise into the money.

I sit there patiently winning and losing blind money.

Key hand #1 I pick up TT, 1 off the button with blinds at 600/1200 and I have 4636. The guys directly to my right limps in front of me and I decide to push to take down the pot. He calls and turns over KQo. I win the coin flip and win a 5,536 pot. Now have 10,172.

Again I play the, you take my chips and I will take yours blind game for the next couple of levels.

Key hand #2 I pick up KK in the SB with 1500/3000 level and I have 11,522. Guy on the button with 17456 chips goes all in and I make an easy call. He has AKo so I am a 3/1 fav.

Board [ 4d, 6h, 5c ][ 2h ][ 3h ] Straight on the board.

When the 3 hit on the river, I swear I thought I lost and was getting ready to post one my I hate KK stories on PSO Shades. It was kind of late and I did not see that we actually split the pot.
Would have been nice to get to 30K in chips, but oh well. I now have 14,022.

Key hand #3 about 8 hands later, same blind level. I have 16,272 after stealing a blind earlier.

I pick up AA in the BB and 2 more people go all in, in front of me, bigger stacks. I cross my fingers and call. They have AKo and 99. No help for them and I win a 32,544 pot. I am now at 48,816.

Key hand #4 in the next level 2K/4K. I have 44,066 and pick up 66 in the SB. Shorter stack on the button, goes all in for 18,833. Now normally when it is going to cost me this much, I will not take a coin flip like that, but I thought he was getting desperate and just trying to make a move so I wound up calling. So what happens the BB calls as well. The BB only had around 12K in chips, so he thought it was a good time to gamble. Now I am not so happy I called with just 66.
We turn over our cards:

Initial all in guy 33, the BB has KQo and I have 66, so I am actually ahead and flipping with the BB.

Board is [ As, 9h, 7h ] [ 8d ][ 5d ]
So I catch a straight, but was actually ahead anyway.
Won 30,807 and we are down to 53 people. I have 74,873 and one of the chip leaders.

Key hand #5, I lose a 20K pot to one of the small stacks as my KK is no match for 55. He hits his set on the flop. No big deal as I still have 68,854.

Key hand #6, I get my revenge as another short stack moves all in with blinds at 3K/6K.
I have 74,854 and hold 99 and he has 14,054 and holds AKo.

Flop: [ 2h, Ad, 7c ] ....Ouch
Turn: [ Ac ] ...double ouch
River: [ 9h ]... I'm a superstar....LOL
Win a 32,608 pot and now have 93,408 and down to 38.

Key hand #6, win another one with QQ vs ATs, 81,610 pot and now have 122,618.
Chip leader and down to 27.

Play the give and steal for a while when I win another good hand.
I have AKc vs QJh. 101,230 pot. Have 182,848 and now down to 21.

*****I make the final table 3rd in chips.******

Nothing happened accept the usual give and steal until the hand of my tourney.

Key hand #7
I have 189,208 and am in the BB. Blinds are 20K/40K and everyone folds to the SB who has 216,890 decides to complete. I have A2o, so I just decide to check.

Flop [ 2c, 8s, Ah ] Perfect !!!

He bets the min 20K and I decide to see where he really is. I raise it to 80K.
He goes all in. Now I think I am ahead, but dont want to rush. I go through all the possible scenerios and decide he does not have AA or 22 since I have both of those and it is pretty unlikely. I put him on a small to mid Ace, and pray he does not have a set of 8's.

I call and he turns over QQ. I say to myself...WTF, this is a guy unwilling to part with a big pair, now if the scenerio was the same, but I only hit the Ace and not 2 pair, I am pretty certain I lay my hand down, but with 2 pair, no f-ing way.

Turn [ 3s ]
River [ Ad ] Full boat !!!

Win 378,416 main pot and I am chip leader. 2 hands later win a flip with 88 vs KJo with a smaller stack. Now have 515,556 and am chip leader with 6 left.

Start to use my stack and wind up being with almost 800K with 4 left.
850K with 3 left.
Start over playing some hands and win a few lose a few.

We start to talk deal as the blinds are 30K/60K and are about to rise. I thought there was no need to gamble when the difference between 1st and 3rd was 4K.

I do my best to negotiate a chip count deal and get 1st place money of $4,658.22 I thought it was a fair deal and was happy with it.

It was another long 6 hours of play, but I think I played pretty well in 2 of the 3 tourneys tonight.

I may take the night off on Friday, as I am one tired puppy, but who knows....LOL

More Sit N Go Action

Played 3 more sit n goes on Stars.
Couple disappointing results with some bad draw outs.

Strangely enough, played 3 30+3 Sit N Goes on Party and moneyed in all 3.
2 Seconds and 1 third.

1st sit n go on Stars have no one to blame but myself:

Started with 1500 in chips and worked my way up to 2860 with 5 people left.
Blinds 75/150
Im in the small blind with Ah 6c and its folded around to me, so instead of raising, what do I do, I limp and the BB checks.
*** FLOP *** [9h 4c 5d]
siberianex: checks
ekimador: bets 150
siberianex: raises 450 to 600 Wanted to see if he has a hand or was just making a steal raise.
ekimador: calls 450 He kinda answered my question.
*** TURN *** [9h 4c 5d] [Th]
siberianex: checks
ekimador: bets 150
siberianex: folds
ekimador collected 1500 from pote
kimador: shows [4h 9d] (two pair, Nines and Fours) He did have a hand so good read.

I could have had his blind before the flop, but misplayed it and lost 750 instead.

2nd hand same situation and same guy, I guess I did not learn my lesson.
Down to 4 and bubble time I have 2260 and 3rd in chips Blinds still 75/150.
Folded around to me and I limp like a dumbass again.

*** FLOP *** [7d 4h 6s]
siberianex: bets 300 Wanted to see if my 2nd pair was good.
ekimador: raises 300 to 600 He sorta answers, but I did not buy it for whatever reason
siberianex: raises 1510 to 2110 and is all-in Brain fart !!!
ekimador: calls 1510
*** TURN *** [7d 4h 6s] [3s]
*** RIVER *** [7d 4h 6s 3s] [Th]
*** SHOW DOWN ***siberianex: shows [6h Jh] (a pair of Sixes)
ekimador: shows [7h 4s] (two pair, Sevens and Fours) He flopped 2 pair again.
ekimador collected 4520 from pot

Again, I should have raised pre-flop and take this down.
*************************************************************************
2nd Sit N Go

Key hand number one:
Blinds 15/30 still 9 left, I have 1530 in chips.
I get Td Th UTG and raise it to 90 only the person directly to my left calls.

*** FLOP *** [Jc 4d 2h]
I bet 1/2 pot (90) he just smooth calls still, I am thinking he must have a smaller pair because there are really no draws out there and he did not raise if he had a Jack.
*** TURN *** [Jc 4d 2h] [7h]
Still a decent card for me, so I throw in another 1/2 pot bet of 180.
He smooth calls again, now I pretty certain I am still good. Lets see what the river brings.
*** RIVER *** [Jc 4d 2h 7h] [Ac]
Not the worst card in the world, but who knows.
I decide to check to see what he would do.
He puts in a bet of 210, there is now 750 in the pot and it will cost me 210 to call (3.5) odds.

I have to call this just for information purposes.
DLtheFirst: shows [Ad 8c] (a pair of Aces) WOW, he called all the way down with a naked Ace
siberianex: mucks hand
DLtheFirst collected 1185 from pot

I was 2.5/1 favorite pre-flop
I was 6/1 favorite after the flop
I was 13.66/1 favorite after the turn.

I know this guy is bad and will be out pretty soon.
Sure enough, about 6 hands later, he just did not want to release his monster AQo when a guy moved in on him. He lost to JJ and was left with 300 in chips and out the very next hand.

I win a pretty decent pot of 1840 when I move all in with 9d 9s with blinds of 50/100 and get called by Kh Ts.
Board was [Ac 5h As 9c] [4s]

2 hands later, I started to steal blinds with: K5o, KQo, KJo.

I now have 2615, still 6 left, blinds 75/150
I get dealt KK (which I hate) so I am happy and also somewhat scared.
All fold to me and I just make it 300 to go (2X BB) to induce action.
I get 2 callers both in the blinds.
*** FLOP *** [5s 4c 5c]
SB Checks and the BB moves all in for 1020.
I of course call, the SB fold.
Showdown: He shows Ac 3d

He does not hit his gutshot and I win a 2940 pot.

Another Key hand:
5 left, blinds 75/150 and next hand will be 100/200 I have 3635.
I have Ad Ks and make it 450 to go. Player to my left goes all in for 1460 more.
So there is now 2510 including the BB. It cost me 1460 to call, so I am getting 1.71/1 on my money. Unless he has AA or KK, im getting the right price. I call and he flips over Ac Ts and im really happy.

*** FLOP *** [Jd 5s Jc] Good flop for me
*** TURN *** [Jd 5s Jc] [Td] 3 outer gets there. I still have outs though.
*** RIVER *** [Jd 5s Jc Td] [4c] Blank

Pre-flop: 3.03/1 favorite
Flop: 6.28/1 favorite

This just put me on tilt which is rare for me and I bluffed off the remaining 1725 in the next 3 hands.
Even though the beat was bad, I was still in OK shape with blinds only at 100/200. Need to be more disciplined in these situations.

I should have probably quit after this one, but I played another one and obviously was not in a condition to play as I went out in 7th.

Live and learn!

Pokerstars VIP Program

January 4th 2006

I also will be doing alot of playing on Party Poker. My biggest win online came on Dec 29th 2005 when I split 1st and 2nd place money based on chip count.

Pokerstars has introduced the VIP program that has a lot of good incentives.
Most of these include entries to tournaments ranging from $2500 - $100,000 guaranteed based on your VIP status.
More info can be found here:

http://www.pokerstars.com/vip/main.html

I have decided that besides playing ring games, Sit N goes are the best way to rack up FPP's

I will give it a try to achieve Silver status by the end of January which means I need to earn 1500 FPP by month end.

I will mostly be playing 20+2 sit n goes, I will get 10 FPP for each one.
This means I will have to play 150 sit n goes this month.

Goals:

  • If I can actually play this many (since I mainly play after 9-10 p.m.)
  • If I can make a profit doing this.

I will hopefully post a result of this at the end of the month (if I do not forget)

As of January 4th my $20+2 Sit N Go Record

Played: 7

1st: 3

2nd: 1

out of the money: 3

Cost to enter $154, Won $324 Profit/Loss: $170 In the money percentage: 57%

FPP Collected: 70
